Saturday Night Live 12/19/09

An excellent night for Saturday Night Live.....so far. Starting off with the Lawrence Welk Show was a great choice. Kristen Wigg is just so hysterical I can't stand it. Her forehead, hands, and voice contribute to her hilarious character of Judice!
Then, James Franco's intro was pretty good. Wasn't rolling on the floor but it wasn't bad or boring. But when he said "Make this the best SNL Christmas show of all time," both me and my father said, "I don't think so!" You can't even compare him to all the legends that have performed at past Christmas shows.
Now, I don't really enjoy What up with That? skits. Kennan just interrupts too much with his singing. I know that's the point of the whole skit, but it really get kind of annoying. However, once Kristen Wigg walked out, it got a bit funnier because I just love her so much. It was great to see Mike Tyson. I really wanted him to get up and punch Keenan though, that would've made the whole skit.
The Christmas Family skit was funny. I was NOT expecting the brother to start making out with Franco. That was crazy! The Affectionate Family was so scary. And I could not stop laughing when the brother grabbed the grandma's boob. It was a little much but still funny.
The Jammy Short was pretty good as well. It was very confusing in a funny way. You just think, "Why the heck are they holding knives and taking pills?" but laughing at the same time.
The Dominican skit was pretty bad. I didn't really laugh at all. To repetitive with the dancing and it got old very quickly.

Altogether: B-

2012 (2009)

Roland Emmerich and Herald Kloser write this script based on the belief that the world might end in 2012 due to the ancient Mayan calendar. It is about an inexperienced, divorced author Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) who takes his kids on a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park. They notice that their usual camping spot is fenced off due to research and testing by scientists for the government. Among these scientists is Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) an American geologist who had been given information by a good friend that neutrinos from a massive solar flare have penetrated the Earth and are causing the temperature of its core to increase rapidly. Throughout the movie Curtis has to find a way with the help of anyone, to save his family and himself from all the disasters occurring.
2012 had a good story line and concept to build a story off of however some parts about the movie got me very annoyed. Disaster strikes and everyone is trying to find a way to survive. As people all around are dying left and right, it seems Jackson and his family never die. They come so close to death many times but never seem to be destroyed as it would happen in real life. And one huge factor directors consider when making movies is trying to make it as real as possible. When Jackson comes so close to death but lives every single time, it makes the movie very unrealistic.
Another annoying aspect about this movie is the length. The movie is almost three hours long. That's a little much for any movie. No movie should be three hours long. By the end of the movie you can't wait to leave or at least I couldn't wait to leave. It should've been cut down and made a reasonable time length.
2012 didn't have that bad of a cast. Actually, the acting was reasonably good. It was just the time and the unrealistic aspects of it made it not the best it could be. I saw the movie twice....not a good idea unless you want to waist hours of your life. Even if you do not see the movie at all you won't be missing much.

B-
  • Don't Rush to see it
  • Plot: Okay

The Blind Side (2009)

The Blind Side is based on a true story about a colored teenager born into a bad environment. With a mom as a crack head and no father he has no adult to guide him to be a mature grown-up. He also has no where to sleep or a home. A wealthy mother Leigh Ann Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) takes him in and tries to teach him the value to having a family and being human. And with the help of the people who care about him, he becomes an all-star football player which will take him on his road to fame.
Sandra Bullock plays an amazing character that the author should absolutely be given credit for (even though it is a true story). But also, Sandra Bullock should be given credit as well. She plays the part amazingly well with great acting skills showing throughout the whole film. Leigh Ann Tuohy is a very strict mother and woman. Though also very emotional, she doesn't really like to show it. She feels so horribly bad for this poor boy that she decides to take him in as her own. However, she doesn't want to be betrayed as a sappy, weak woman. She tries to stay strong in her emotions through the whole movie but when she does lose it, doesn't want to be seen. I did not think that Sandra Bullock could pull off a southern accent but DOES. She does it very subtly but it works. Altogether Bullock did a very nice job in this performance.
Also, Quinton Aaron did a very swell job in the picture playing Michael Oher, a teen who eventually becomes an excellent left tackle. He was very picky with his emotions and made me cry a couple of times. He comes off as an uneducated boy but shows that he sure as hell isn't stupid. He doesn't talk very much but when he does, you can't hold back your tears. Excellent job to Aaron.
A Great cast of actors makes this job a success and a MUST SEE! There's a appreciable lesson in this plot. Trusting the people you love and sticking up for your family and what you believe in is really important and that's what will get you in the end (tear wise). And that's the lesson that should be taken home from the theaters.

A
  • Must See
  • Plot: Enjoyable
  • Length: Not too long

Welcome!

Hello! My name is Liam and created this blog for these reasons. I am an actor and have been acting for my whole life. I do a lot of theatre work but I love the movies and love to critique pictures when I see them. I study a lot of the actors in the movies now including Meryl Streep, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Steve Carrell and many more. I also love Saturday Night Live and watch it every week. So I decided to write them down. I like reading reviews online but sometimes they're long and hard to follow. That's why I thought I would help some people by writing reviews in easy-to-read English so people can understand easier. So I hope you appreciate my posts and benefit from my reviews.
