Roland Emmerich and Herald Kloser write this script based on the belief that the world might end in 2012 due to the ancient Mayan calendar. It is about an inexperienced, divorced author Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) who takes his kids on a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park. They notice that their usual camping spot is fenced off due to research and testing by scientists for the government. Among these scientists is Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) an American geologist who had been given information by a good friend that neutrinos from a massive solar flare have penetrated the Earth and are causing the temperature of its core to increase rapidly. Throughout the movie Curtis has to find a way with the help of anyone, to save his family and himself from all the disasters occurring.
2012 had a good story line and concept to build a story off of however some parts about the movie got me very annoyed. Disaster strikes and everyone is trying to find a way to survive. As people all around are dying left and right, it seems Jackson and his family never die. They come so close to death many times but never seem to be destroyed as it would happen in real life. And one huge factor directors consider when making movies is trying to make it as real as possible. When Jackson comes so close to death but lives every single time, it makes the movie very unrealistic.
Another annoying aspect about this movie is the length. The movie is almost three hours long. That's a little much for any movie. No movie should be three hours long. By the end of the movie you can't wait to leave or at least I couldn't wait to leave. It should've been cut down and made a reasonable time length.
2012 didn't have that bad of a cast. Actually, the acting was reasonably good. It was just the time and the unrealistic aspects of it made it not the best it could be. I saw the movie twice....not a good idea unless you want to waist hours of your life. Even if you do not see the movie at all you won't be missing much.
